Terms and conditions
Last updated: 29 October 2026
These terms cover your use of guimendes.com and any video editing work I do for you. Please read them before sending footage or confirming a quote.
1. Who I am
Guilherme Mendes, trading as “Gui Mendes”, video editor based in Lisbon, Portugal. Email: [email protected].
2. Using this website
- The website’s text and design are mine. The videos and stills shown belong to me and/or the artists, companies and productions credited next to them, and are shown here as examples of my editing work. Please don’t copy or reuse them without permission.
- Information on this site is for general information and isn’t a binding offer. A project only starts once we agree a quote in writing (email is enough).
3. Quotes and projects
- Every project gets a written quote setting out what I’ll deliver, the price, deadlines, number of revision rounds and payment terms.
- Your acceptance of the quote (for example by replying “approved” by email) and these terms form our agreement. If the quote and these terms differ, the quote applies.
- Extra work outside the quote, such as additional revision rounds or new versions, will be quoted separately before I do it.
4. Free first video
- New clients can get one free test edit: a single video of up to 30 seconds, made from footage you supply, with one round of changes.
- It doesn’t include music licensing, colour work beyond basic correction, motion graphics or multiple versions or formats.
- Before I start, I’ll confirm by email whether your request qualifies. Anything bigger gets a normal quote.
- There’s no obligation to hire me afterwards. You can use the free test edit on the same terms as paid work (section 6).
5. Your footage and materials
- By sending me footage, music, logos, fonts or other material, you confirm that you own it or have permission to use it for the project, and that the people who appear in it have agreed to be filmed and shown.
- You’re responsible for licensing any music you ask me to use.
- Always keep your own copy of your original files. I take reasonable care of what you send, but I’m not responsible for loss of original footage.
6. Using the finished video
- Once the project is paid in full, you can use the final delivered video for the purposes agreed in the quote, or, if the quote doesn’t say, for any purpose.
- Project files, unused footage and editing timelines aren’t included unless agreed in the quote.
- I may show the finished work in my portfolio and on social media, with credit to you, unless you tell me in writing before delivery that the work is confidential.
7. Payment
Payment terms (amount, any deposit and due date) are set out in the quote. Prices are in euros.
8. Cancellations and refunds
- Before I start work: you can cancel and get a full refund of anything you’ve paid.
- After I’ve started: you can cancel at any time. You pay for the work done up to that point, in proportion to the quote, and I refund anything you paid beyond that.
- If the delivered video doesn’t match what we agreed: tell me and I’ll fix it at no extra cost within the agreed revisions. If I can’t deliver what was agreed, I’ll refund the part of the price for what wasn’t delivered.
- If I miss an agreed deadline and haven’t delivered within a further reasonable period you give me, you can cancel and get a refund for the work not delivered.
- Once you’ve approved the final video, the price is no longer refundable, except where the law says otherwise.
- Refunds are paid within 14 days using the same payment method, unless we agree otherwise.
9. If you’re a consumer
If you hire me as a private individual (not for a business, professional or artistic activity), you have extra rights under Portuguese consumer law:
- 14-day right of withdrawal. For contracts agreed at a distance (for example by email), you can withdraw within 14 days of agreeing, without giving a reason, by emailing me a clear statement that you want to withdraw.
- If you ask me to start work during those 14 days and then withdraw, you pay for the work done up to the moment you tell me.
- If, at your express request, the work is completed within the 14 days and you’ve acknowledged that you lose the right of withdrawal once it’s fully done, the right of withdrawal no longer applies.
- Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer under the law.
10. Responsibility
I do the work with care and professional skill. Except in cases of intent or gross negligence, or where the law doesn’t allow it, my liability for any project is limited to the amount you paid for that project. I’m not responsible for how you use the finished video or for rights in material you supplied.
11. Complaints and disputes
- If something isn’t right, email [email protected] first and I’ll do my best to sort it out quickly.
- Consumers can also use an alternative dispute resolution (RAL) entity, such as the Centro de Arbitragem de Conflitos de Consumo de Lisboa (www.centroarbitragemlisboa.pt) or the Centro Nacional de Informação e Arbitragem de Conflitos de Consumo – CNIACC (www.arbitragemdeconsumo.org). More information is on the Portal do Consumidor (www.consumidor.gov.pt).
12. Law and courts
These terms are governed by Portuguese law. Disputes go to the courts of Lisbon, without prejudice to mandatory rules that let consumers go to the courts where they live.
13. Changes
I may update these terms. The version that applies to a project is the one in force when you accepted the quote.
